Too cool of a
band. "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinkin' Rich" and "Cherry Pie" were great! But
then came "Dog Eat Dog," and "Ultraphobic." Good albums, but definitely not my
favorites. Like most big bands of the 80s, they put out a greatest hits album
to try and stay in the game and then 1996's "Belly To Belly" was put out and I
thought it was great because it was HARD, but once again, not what we were
used to coming from Warrant. Then a live album and a quote from Janie Lane
himself, which lead me to believe that things seem to be looking up. ***Not the
exact quote*** He basically said, "On the next album, we're going back to full
on glam." which was later corrected to "a little of their new style and a little
of the old." That's awesome considering the crap that's played on radio
today.....
Some friends and I
saw Warrant back on May 31st, 1997 at Janie Lane's Sunset Strip in downtown
Orlando. They rocked. Your basic concert-going drunk asshole was there causing
trouble and Jani had him thrown out during the middle of the show. That was
pretty cool. Must be nice when you own your own club. That club is gone now.
As far as I know, Jani's accountant was screwing him over so Jani took his name
off the property. It was then simply known as the Sunset Strip. It soon went
under and now is your basic mold of a downtown bar, Bar Orlando.
I saw Warrant again
in 2001 and met Jani outside the House of Blues. He was a great guy, very
personable, and glad to meet with and talk to his fans. It's things like that
that have made me a Warrant fan for life and I'll go see them every chance I
get.
