Is it actually the bands' fault? Maybe.... but while bands like Metallica and Van Halen were changing their image so they could fit into today's mainstream (poorly), other groups like L.A. Guns and Slaughter still remain to tour and rock just as hard and harder then they ever did before. So what if they're not getting the big arena shows anymore? That just makes the shows more personal and it shows who the true fans really are (no posers or assholes). But in my opinion, the reason the gigs aren't selling out as they used to is simply because today's media has given them all the shaft. The music and info about bands aren't getting out to the people. I would really like to know who's in charge of this 'follow the leader' game of the music we're supposed to listen to, and if they're enjoying watching us suffer. Okay, you got your kicks, now give us back our rock n roll already! I personally haven't really sat down to listen to normal radio in about three years simply because there's nothing out there worth listening to.
Here in, Orlando, Florida, there was only one radio station that 'claimed' to be THE rock station (excluding classic rock). Then a new alternative radio station popped up and that "ROCK" station decided that they would be alternative too. How shitty is it when you can turn the radio to two DIFFERENT frequencies and hear the SAME crappy song at the SAME time. Don't get me wrong, I have tried listening to radio, but I've decided it's just not worth my time to listen to a depressing downbeat song; like ANYTHING put out by Staind or that one called 'I Smell Sex and Candy'. Ya know what? I smell SHIT! But I have to admit, the blame isn't solely aimed towards media and the bands. I also have to blame a lot of the everyday rock n roll fans. Yes, I'm sorry to say myself included. There are still bands out there that kick some major ass just trying to get started. The only problem is that since nobody's heard of them, or there's no one famous in the band, the fans aren't willing to give them a chance. That's not fair to all the new guys out there just trying to put food on their table.
I gotta say that bands like Hair of the Dog, Jester and Cut Throat are fuckin' radical and they deserve a lot of credit for sticking to their guns and following their dreams. Unfortunately, because of these 'rock fans' not giving new rock n roll a shot, Hair of the Dog is no more. I seriously suggest checking both of these bands out plus any other newbies you might know of.
