Digital Glam Productions

Welcome to the second issue of the D1G1TAL GLAM newsletter.  Yes, those of you who got the 1st one, I know I said I would do this about once a month.  I didn't...  So now I'm sitting around the house waiting for my work phone to ring.  It's not...  And I'm thinking, "Why not get a new issue out?"   Once again, you are receiving this newsletter because you either signed up for it, or your email address was collected from a Guest Book on a site maintained by Digital Glam Productions (either ROK-U, now Digital Glam or HOTDROCKS.com).  If you do not wish to receive this newsletter, please note the REMOVE email link at the bottom of this page.

In this second issue:

Skid Row
thickskin

Bret Michaels
Songs of Life

Lillian Axe
Love & War

BulletBoys
Za-Za

Finally!  Music Videos (and other stuff) @ Digital Glam!

It's true, it's true.  I finally have the technology to go back through my library of old VHS tapes and share the glam with you all.  Currently, I am only willing to provide 4 to 6 videos at a time due to monthly bandwidth limitations, but I'm working on getting an FTP up and running where bandwidth would not be a factor.  Right now, you can check out videos from Bang Tango, Faster Pussycat, Lillian Axe and Vain.  The cool thing is that they're all UNDER 9MB so they'll download pretty fast and believe it or not, the quality is still there for simple computer viewing.

"But Glamaster Johnny, how can you do this?"  Well, there are two catches.  The first is that ya gotta have the latest version of Windows Media Player.  That would be version 9 folks.  The second catch is that I ask you to click on a couple of the ads on the right of every page.  Every click gets me a whopping 3-7 cents and helps to pay for the hosting.  That's all.  Was that too much to ask for?  Like the MP3 section, I'll be updating this page about once a month, with the next update on (or around) Feb. 21st.

Speaking of the MP3 section, the current theme for the available songs is "Glam Rock Classics."  Songs from some of the biggest and best known bands of the day.  I'm thinking next update (also on the 21st) I'm gonna school you all and post some songs from bands you've never heard of before, but rock just the same.

Hey guess what?  Digital Glam has MERCHANDISE now.  Can you believe it?  Why don't you buy a shirt?  Your friends might like you better.  I know I would!  For the month of February, because I love you all, get a DG shirt for a mere $5.00.  Your choice of Black, Grey or White.  Spread the word and look cool at the same time.

February Band of the Month
SKID ROW

For those of you that are out of the loop.  Skid Row released their first new studio album in over 7 years back in August.  To be honest, I wasn't crazy about it.  But after that 3rd listen, I was asking myself, "Sebastian who?"  This gentleman to the right (obviously excited to be in DG's band of the month), is Johnny Solinger, Skid's new frontman.  Say hello.

Skid Row toured this past summer as part of the big Poison road trip.  To finally see them live was great.  Especially since it was the same day Thickskin came out.  Now keep in mind that some of the early Skid songs were written for Sebastian's vocal range which is next to impossible to hit in the first place.  Well Johnny's right next to that.  He sings the old songs the right way and the new songs his way.  He was a great addition to the band.

Also new to the band is Phil Varone, from Saigon Kick fame.  There's definitely a little SK sound in the new disc, but that's not a bad thing at all.  You might notice it on songs like "Hittin' A Wall" or "Swallow Me."  The new songs that usually get the repeat treatment from me though are "Thick Is The Skin," "Born A Beggar," "New Generation" and the remake "I Remember You Two."

If you listen to Thickskin, don't expect your normal progression of Skid Row albums.  For example, Self-titled=very poppy, Slave To The Grind=a little harder, Subhuman Race=heavy shit.  I would say that this album goes back to a S2theG feel, but a little more radio friendly, without the poppy.  Just one man's opinion.  All in all, give this new album and new line-up a shot.  You won't be disappointed.
